Welcome to Human Remains, Abstract Photography by Matt Lewis

September 17th 2008

Thanks to everyone whose written and made suggestions for improvements to the site. All have been taken on board and I'm in the process of redesigning the individual pages as we speak in order to accomodate image descriptions as requested. I greatly appreciate all the positive feedback I've received, especially that of fellow photographers. The site is, and will continue to evolve as I learn more about the finer art of coding and, indeed as my skill and range improves (I hope!).

I now have a blog so if you'd like to comment on my work or leave me a message you can now do so there. Also watch this space for a particularly special project I have lined up, due for completion in November 2008. Scroll down for details of my latest work.

About Me

My name is Matt Lewis, I hail from South Wales in the United Kingdom and this is my modest personal portfolio. I have been interested in Abstract Photography for some years now, primarily focusing on textural subjects born as a result of decay. Found Paintings if you will, as some choose to call them.

I spend my weekends trolling Industrial Estates, Abandoned Houses and Factories looking for instances where nature and synthetics have combined to created miniature natural artworks. Of late I've also become interested in portraiture and have also developed a love of floral photography. This site, however, is primarily geared to showcase my Abstract Photos. I'm as far from a professional photographer as you can get, using basic SLR, Compact and DSLR equipment, a scanner and Adobe Photoshop to generate the results you see here. I am not, however, adverse to applying texture to images in order to create the desired effect.

Primarily I would like this site to be used as an education to those people who would simply look at a dumpster, for instance, and dismiss it as a dirty and grubby monstrosity. As nature reclaims our items it enacts a process of decomposition that can yeild it's own beauty. The concept of Abstraction and Abstract Photography is one that is not, essentially, difficult to grasp. I'm not asking you to see the Madonna and Child in my images, but merely take them for what they are and most importantly how you would percieve them. Some people will simply view them as literally 'crap', others will be entranced by the entropy and symmetry created by decay and oxidisation, some will see Elvis. All good.

Please feel free to comment and leave me a message, I am always interested to hear constructive feedback and criticism, it's how we grow.

Take care.
